Peters, Fisher boys instrumental in Hawks’ success at Ballard Classic

HUXLEY – The middle distance and distance races continued to provide big points for the South Hamilton boys’ track and field team at Tuesday’s Ballard Classic.

Three individual and two relay victories helped carry the Hawks to 102 points and a third-place finish in the Class B team race. CMB stood above the field with 142 points, while Roland-Story followed closely behind with 136.

South Hamilton head coach Darrell Paulsen continued to ponder the possibilities in the middle distance events as he begins to consider what he’ll do once the postseason rolls around.

“It was a beautiful night to run and we haven’t had too many of those,” he said. “We’re going to have some options and I still think we can go faster in some events.”

Freshman Logan Peters was again an important piece in a number of standout performances for the Hawks. He won the 1,600-meter run in 4:50.85 and the open 800 in 2:10.56. He also ran the second leg of the gold-medal 4×800 relay (8:33.66).

The Fisher brothers – Jared and Devon – bookended the runaway 4×800 victory; Josiah Brown took the third leg.

Jared Fisher came back to the track less than 30 minutes later to rip off a 52.68 400, good enough for the victory.

The Hawks’ other win came in the 1,600 medley relay (3:50.34), which was manned by the Fisher boys on the 400 and 800 legs. Drake Thompson and Logan Klemp ran the 200 legs.

Silver medals went to South Hamilton’s Blake Barquist in the long jump (18 feet, 4 1/2 inches) and Trey Woodall in the 400 low hurdles (59.23).

Woodall ran the anchor on the third-place shuttle hurdle relay (1:06.98). Treyton Twedt, Christian Griffin and Barquist completed the quartet.

The Hawks’ 4×400 – Thompson, Woodall and the Fishers – was also third (3:43.56).
