Lynx roll again, hand Lions and Gaels first conference losses

CLEAR LAKE – The Webster City boys’ golf team came close to wrapping up the North Central Conference dual-meet title yesterday at the All Vets Club.

The Lynx fired a 148 to down previous conference unbeatens Clear Lake (161) and Fort Dodge St. Edmond (164) by 13 and 16 strokes, respectively.

“Right now we’re just trying to go out and take care of business,” WCHS head coach Dave Brighton said. “We’re not trying to get too high or too low.”

Five players shot 38 or better for WCHS. Avery Fuhs was the low man on the day, as he handled the nine-hole course and posted a 1-under-par round of 35 for a two-stroke win over teammate Connor Shannon and St. Edmond’s Robert Flattery.

Flattery was awarded the runner-up medal on a card-back.

Alec Fuhs, Drew Fielder and Sean Vogelbacher all penciled in rounds of 38. Nathan Ferrell rounded out the varsity roster with a 43.

WCHS will head to Lake Panorama National Golf Course for a tournament hosted by Panorama on Saturday. The Lynx (Class 3A) and host school (2A) are reigning state champions.
