Hawk girls 7th at tourney
Facing a talented and deep field, the still inexperienced South Hamilton girls’ golf team fell back into seventh place at the nine-team West Marshall Invite Tuesday afternoon at Lincoln Valley Golf Course.
The Hawks posted an 18-hole total of 430, 64 shots behind team champion Grundy Center (366). The Spartans – winners of eight state championships in the last 16 years, including three consecutive 1A crowns entering this spring – held off the challenge from runner-up Nevada (370) by four shots.
Jasmine Hyland turned in a solid 48 on the inward nine and led the Hawks with a 100.
Kenady Campbell and Jenna Woodall both turned in rounds of 109, and Katelyn Sogard also scored with a 112.
Marla Grubb (113) and Krista Swenson (117) also competed for the Hawks.
Grundy Center’s Kate Ross fired an 83 to claim the individual crown. Nevada’s Claire Ausman was the runner-up with an 85.
