Ferrell fires 1-under 35, Lynx cruise

WEBSTER CITY – Nathan Ferrell learned what a demotion felt like last week. But he didn’t pout. He simply went back to work.

He’s been promoted again, too. And he intends to remain a fixture in the talented and deep Webster City boys’ golf lineup.

After starting the season as a member of the varsity roster, the freshman spent last week on the junior varsity. He got his chance with

the big club Monday afternoon and proceeded to shred the par-36 front nine at Briggs Wood Golf Course.

Ferrell’s 1-under par round of 35 put him at the top of the leaderboard, as he helped the Lynx post a 145 to throttle ADM (174) by 29 strokes.

“I think he’s pretty determined to get in that varsity spot and stay there,” WCHS head coach Dave Brighton said of Ferrell. “Now he knows he can play with the varsity guys. This will be a good confidence builder for him.”

Ferrell’s sizzling round included an eagle at the par-4 second hole.

The Fuhs wins, Alec and Avery, both had visions of rounds in the red before hiccups late.

Alec Fuhs birdied the two par 5’s – the first and fourth holes – to sit at 2-under before giving a couple strokes back to finish with a runner-up medalist round of even-par 36. Avery Fuhs was actually 3-under after four holes, but a double-bogey on the par-3 seventh ended a three-hole stretch in which he yielded four strokes to par; he finished with a 37.

“We had a chance to go really low and kind of let it get away at the end,” Brighton said.

Connor Shannon also turned in a 37. His round was much less chaotic, as he penciled in eight pars and a bogey at the par-4 sixth.

Drew Fielder (38) and Sean Vogelbacher (41) completed the lineup.

Micah Moyer shot a 41 to lead ADM.
