Klemp, Hill lead Hawks to one-point win

JEFFERSON – Logan Klemp and Collin Hill both produced a double-double, as they led South Hamilton to a nail-biting 55-54 victory over Green County in a Heart of Iowa Conference boys’ basketball clash here on Friday.

South Hamilton (6-7, 5-5 HOIC) led by 11 entering the fourth quarter and then watched Greene County (5-9, 4-6 HOIC) go on a 24-14 run over the final 8 minutes.

“We’ve struggled in close games, so I’m really proud of the guys for stepping up and finding a way to get it done,” South Hamilton head coach Nathan Hill said.

Klemp had his best performance of the season – a team-high 16 points and 10 rebounds. Collin Hill poured in 14 points and also snared 10 boards.

“Logan played one of his best games of the year,” Nathan Hill said. “He’s really been looking to be more aggressive offensively the last couple of games and it’s really helping our team right now.”

Conner Hill threw in seven points to go along with five assists. Marco Balderas finished with six points and three steals. Trey Woodall netted five points.

Collin Hill added three assists and three steals to his haul.

Max Neese notched 13 points to pace the Rams.

Hodnefield scores 14 in loss for SH girls

JEFFERSON – Greene County’s Laurin Lyons canned 8 of 9 free throws in the fourth quarter and 12 of 13 overall on her way to 27 points, as she led the Rams to a 61-50 Heart of Iowa Conference girls’ basketball victory over South Hamilton here Friday night.

Fouls were a common theme throughout the contest. The two teams combined for 49 infractions and five players fouled out. A total of 62 free throws were shot.

Greene County (3-12, 3-8 HOIC) moved in front to stay by outscoring South Hamilton (1-14, 1-10 HOIC) 18-8 in the third quarter.

Bree Hodnefield registered 14 points and nine rebounds in a losing effort. Diana Garcia finished with eight points and four steals. Paxton Wicks also scored eight points, and Brittany Spindler and Sydney Friest added five apiece.
