Open weights still hurt Hawks, but they exit mat with two dual wins
STORY CITY – Three grapplers went a perfect 3-0 to help the South Hamilton wrestling team win two of three duals during a quadrangular hosted by Roland-Story here last night.
Open weights still did plenty to hurt the Hawks – they were open at 106, 113, 120, 182 and 285 – but they won six of the eight contested weights in a 42-33 victory over Colfax-Mingo and four of five bouts in a 45-24 thumping of Heart of Iowa Conference rival Saydel.
Roland-Story handed South Hamilton (2-1) its only loss, 54-18, in the nightcap.
Noah Lutter, South Hamilton’s 170-pounder, provided the Hawks with the maximum team points following three wins by fall. He decked Colfax-Mingo’s Xavier Cronin in 3:11 to secure the team win in the final match of the dual and then flattened Saydel’s Dominick Kirkpatrick in 3:25. Lutter finished off his perfect evening by sticking Roland-Story’s Paden Pugh in 46 seconds.
Eighth-ranked 160-pounder Luke Peters also came out on top in three matches, two of them by fall. His only test came in a 9-3 decision over Saydel’s Dylan Coffin.
Keaton Hetland, who spent the night at 132, picked up a pair of pins to go with a forfeit.
Charlie Reiter (138) and Brian Greenfield (145) both went 2-1 and they combined to secure four falls.
