Hawk boys earn first victory in a rout

JEWELL – South Hamilton shared the ball well and dished out 24 assists on its 28 baskets in a 70-36 drubbing of West Marshall in a non-conference boys’ basketball game here Saturday night.

The Hawks (1-1) outscored the Trojans 22-4 in the second quarter to build a 42-14 halftime lead.

“It was a good team win,” South Hamilton head coach Nathan Hill said. “We were able to get out in transition and get some easy looks. I challenged our guys and they responded.”

The Hill boys – Collin, a junior, and Conner, a freshman – led the way in the rout. Collin Hill poured in a game-high 23 points to go along with nine rebounds, three assists and three steals. Conner Hill came off the bench to deliver 12 points and four assists.

Trey Woodall drained three of South Hamilton’s seven 3-point buckets and finished with 11 points.

A total of 10 Hawks got into the scoring column. Marco Balderas knocked down a 3, but he spent the night distributing and finished with a game-high seven assists. Landon Quam chipped in six points and five assists.

David Disney scored 10 points to pace the Trojans.

South Hamilton will return home Tuesday night to take on Heart of Iowa Conference rival Greene County.
