Dinsdale ranked No. 1 at 220 pounds in 2A

WEBSTER CITY – Gavin Dinsdale is used to the bull’s-eye and that’s good. It’s going to be on his chest all winter.

The Webster City senior will begin the 2015-16 wrestling season ranked No. 1 at 220 pounds in Class 2A according to The Predicament, which released its first set of rankings in each of the three classes yesterday evening.

WCHS sophomore Cooper Lawson is ranked fourth at 285 pounds. South Hamilton junior Luke Peters will kickoff his season rated No. 8 at 152 pounds in Class 1A.

Dinsdale set a single-season school record for victories (46) a year ago and placed fifth at 285 at the state tournament. He most likely received the nod at the top of the 220-pound division on the strength of his 6-1 regular season victory over No. 2 Alex Paulson of Forest City during the opening round of the Webster City Duals this past January.

Already the owner of more than 100 career victories, Dinsdale will be in search of his third trip to the state meet this season.

Lawson is coming off a successful freshman season where he split time at 220 and 285. Now weighing 265 pounds, Lawson put together a stellar offseason that included a seventh-place finish at the Cadet Nationals in Fargo, North Dakota.

Albia senior and Northern Iowa recruit Carley Isley is the No. 1-ranked heavyweight. He was the state champion at 220 a year ago.

Peters is a returning state qualifier for South Hamilton.
