Lynx make debut in Class 3A AP Poll at No. 8
WEBSTER CITY – Fresh off a 42-19 runaway win over Gilbert in its season opener on Friday, the Webster City football team found a place in the first Associated Press Class 3A poll of the season on Monday.
The Lynx sit at No. 8 after generating 51 points from the statewide panel of writers. They sit six points behind seventh-ranked Waverly-Shell Rock.
Carroll, which is a 3A District 2 member alongside Webster City, holds down the No. 10 position. The Lynx and Tigers will meet during Week 3 of the regular season in Carroll.
The top-ranked teams in the six classes are West Des Moines Valley (4A), Pella (3A), North Fayette Valley (2A), Iowa City Regina (1A), Gladbrook-Reinbeck (A) and Newell-Fonda (8-man).
Pella, North Fayette Valley, Regina and Newell-Fonda all won state championships a season ago. WDM Dowling, the 2014 big-class champion, opens ranked No. 2, as does Logan-Magnolia (A) in the smallest 11-man class.
Logan-Magnolia knocked off Gladbrook-Reinbeck in a title game last November.
