Lynx come up with just one win at Forest City tourney

FOREST CITY – The Webster City volleyball team suffered through a long day that included just one victory in five matches on Saturday at the Forest City Invitational.

The Lynx lone win came over Panorama, 21-13 and 21-15. They dropped matches to a pair of ranked squads – No. 6 (Class 3A) Forest City (21-16, 21-13) and No. 11 (3A) Spirit Lake (21-11, 21-18) – as well as to St. Ansgar (21-11, 21-18) and North Central Conference rival Clarion-Goldfield-Dows (21-15, 9-21, 15-11).

“We went up against a couple of tough teams in Forest City and Spirit Lake. They were very good teams in that they have a lot to offer in terms of offense and defense,” WCHS head coach Jess Howard said. “Just getting experience against them was good.”

WCHS (7-13) again struggled on the attack with 49 errors and a kill efficiency of .087.

Andi Anderson led the Lynx with 14 kills. Taylor Schnathorst added 13, Kenzie Garvey and Olivia Myers both finished with 12, and Gabbi Hoversten slapped 10.

Courtney Lampman distributed 31 assists, one more than Schnathorst.

WCHS found some success behind the service line with 34 aces. Gianna Gourley produced a team-high 14. Garvey and Schnathorst had six each.

Gourley also collected 23 digs, tops on the team.

WCHS will return home for a conference test against 12th-ranked (3A) Humboldt on Thursday.
