Rams jump on Hawks early, roll to 14-4 baseball win
JEFFERSON – Greene County scored six runs in its first at bat and never let up against South Hamilton in a Heart of Iowa Conference baseball game here Monday night.
The Rams added eight more runs in the third, fourth and fifth innings to dispose of the Hawks, 14-4, in five innings.
Hawks’ pitcher Trey Woodall went the distance in the loss. He allowed 18 hits – the quartet of Jordan Challen, Riah Nelson, Jordan Hostetler and Colton Fitzpatrick combined to go 13-for-14 off the right hander – and walked three.
“Early in the game they got a few ground balls to find an open spot. Nothing was hit super hard,” South Hamilton head coach Kyle Galetich said.
The Hawks (1-2, 1-2 HOIC) made four errors.
Challen (3-for-3), Nelson (4-for-4) and Hostetler (3-for-3) all doubled for the Rams (3-1, 3-1 HOIC). Challen also collected three RBI, while Hostetler finished with two.
Caleb Olson, Hunter Griffin and Dugan Swenson all singled for the Hawks. Griffin and Blake Barquist drove in runs.
