Clarksville secures first win of season at expense of Trojans

CLARKSVILLE – A run in the bottom of seventh inning gave the Clarksville baseball team the chance to celebrate for the first time this season and it came at the expense of Iowa Star Conference rival Northeast Hamilton Wednesday evening.

The previously winless Indians (1-9, 1-5 ISC) trailed 3-0 after two innings and 4-2 after 41?2, but rallied with single runs in their final three at bats to prevail, 5-4.

NEH (1-6, 1-6 ISC) was disappointed with the loss, but not with its performance.

“This is probably the best baseball we’ve played all year,” NEH head coach Chace Pruismann said.

Kyler Rapp, Nick Jeffers and Kyle Pruismann all found the gap for doubles, while Austin Smith and Hunter Dilley both singled for the Trojans. Rapp and Smith both drove in one run.

NEH relief pitcher Kyle Leksell was tabbed with the loss. He came on in relief of Jeffers in the sixth inning.

The Trojans will head to Traer to face North Tama this evening.
