Gilbert produces a hat trick, Vogelbacher scores twice as Lynx win fourth straight

CLEAR LAKE – The veteran and the rookie powered the Webster City girls’ soccer team to its fourth consecutive victory here last night.

Senior Molly Gilbert produced a hat trick and freshman Sarah Vogelbacher tacked on two goals, as they propelled the Lynx to a 5-1 rout of Clear Lake.

“Those two work real well together,” WCHS head coach Paul Baedke said after his squad improved to 8-6 on the season. “It was a good way to (end the regular season), especially because Clear Lake came out fired up.”

Gilbert increased her season goals total to 25, while Vogelbacher enters the postseason with 10. They each scored once in the first half to give the Lynx a 2-0 cushion at intermission.

Clear Lake scored in the 52nd minute to trim its deficit to 2-1, but less than eight minutes later Vogelbacher rattled the back of the net off a Gilbert assist.

Gilbert added a pair of unassisted goals in the final six minutes.

WCHS registered 11 shots on goal and limited Clear Lake to four. Lynx goalkeeper Maia Jaycox finished with three saves.

The Lynx will travel to Aplington on Tuesday for a Class 1A regional match against Aplington-Parkersburg. The contest will get underway at 6 p.m.
