STORY CITY - A back injury may have robbed Tanner Hild of half of the 2012-13 wrestling season and portions of this campaign as well, but through all of the pain and frustration he's remembered one thing - how to win.

And now he's a member of one of the Lynx most illustrious fraternities.

Hild went 5-0 at 152 pounds at the Norsemen Duals on Saturday and in the process earned his 100th career victory, joining a group of nine others in program history to accomplish the feat. He reached the milestone in the third round with a pin over Roland-Story's Noah Bartmess in 4:37.

Tanner Hild (top) looks to turn Roland-Story’s Noah Bartmess on Saturday. Hild pinned Bartmess at 152 pounds for his 100th career victory.

"With everything that I've been through I wasn't quite sure if I was going to get there, but it feels really good," Hild said moments after win No. 100. "It makes it a lot sweeter, that's for sure."

Hild became the third WCHS grappler to reach triple digits this season; sixth-ranked (Class 2A) Connor Larson (170) and second-ranked Dylan Fielder (195) got there during the first week of the regular season back in December. But they never had to face the physical trials that Hild has dealt with.

"I'm glad to see (Hild) hit that mark and I'm happy that he's doing so well now," WCHS head coach Ted Larson said. "That's a big accomplishment for him."

Hild faced next to no anxiety all day and neither did the 11th-ranked Lynx (21-3), as they walloped five foes to win the team title and tie the single-season school record for dual victories.

WCHS outscored their opponents 317-61 and 15 wrestlers stepped onto the mat and combined for a 58-12 record. They collected 26 falls.

"Things went well," Ted Larson said after easy wins over OA-BCIG (56-21), the Johnston JV (65-10), Roland-Story (68-3), Davis County (77-6) and North Central Conference rival Hampton-Dumont (51-21). "We didn't want to do nothing this week, but we also wanted to take it a little easy, so it was a good tournament for us at this time."

Freddie Seeley (120), Jacob Powers (145), Connor Larson and Fielder all joined Hild with spotless 5-0 records. Powers and Fielder led the pin party with four each.

Joey Root (160) piled up a 4-0 record in place of eighth-ranked Alex Oswald, who wrestled just once and picked up a win.

Ty Schnathorst (126) had his most productive day with four wins in five matches; Ryan Ferrari (138), Gus Gasca (220) and third-ranked Gavin Dinsdale (285) were all 4-1 as well.

"Our younger guys, it was a great day for them to build their confidence," Ted Larson said. "Our hammers, they just kind of got a good practice in, so to speak."

WCHS will be back in the Roland-Story High School gymnasium on Saturday for a 2A sectional tournament. The top two place winners will advance to districts and the top two teams will qualify for the regional duals.

"It was a good thing to be in that gym a week before we're going to go back and there were some individual matches that were key to (sectional) seeds," Ted Larson said.
