WEBSTER CITY - Shots falling through the hoop continued to be a glaring problem for the Webster City girls' basketball team last night inside the WCHS gymnasium, as the Lynx wasted a solid night defensively in a North Central Conference loss to Algona Bishop Garrigan.
A dismal 3 for 22 shooting effort in the first half didn't get significantly better in the second half in a 42-28 loss to the Golden Bears. WCHS (0-9, 0-8 NCC) finished just 10 of 41 from the field, including 2 of 16 from behind the 3-point arc.
"We did a lot of things really well, but you're not going to beat anybody scoring 28 points a game. Period," WCHS head coach Nicole Muhlenbruch said after the 24 percent shooting effort. "We would like to see the kids attacking the basket more. We feel like we're sitting back and just taking the outside shots."

WCHS guard Cassidy Bultena (24) scores over Bishop Garrigan’s Taylor Hovey last night in the WCHS gym.
Garrigan (4-6, 4-4 NCC) didn't exactly scorch the nets, but the visitors were more consistent at the offensive end and took the lead for good in the first four minutes of the game. The Golden Bears led 11-7 after one quarter and then limited the Lynx to just one second-quarter field goal to up the margin to 21-11 at the intermission.
Sophomore guard Cassidy Bultena came off the bench to score all four second-quarter points for the Lynx on a bucket from close range and two free throws. She scored eight points in the game and was a perfect 4 of 4 at the stripe.
WCHS actually hit all six of its free throw attempts, but Garrigan went to the line 22 times and made 12.
