Motorists driving through the Holiday Lighted Drive at Briggs Woods Park campgrounds contributed more than $900 in donations. Those funds were donated this week to the Domestic/Sexual Assault Outreach Center.

A total of $946.91 was collected in the free will donation box set up at the end of the lighted drive. Chamber Executive Director Deb Brown said she was pleasantly surprised by the donations received.

"We didn't know how many donations we would receive," she said. "But this was great."

A donation box at the end of the Holiday Lighted Drive at Briggs Woods Park campgrounds brought in more than $900 in donations for D/SAOC.

Brenda Griffin, shelter program supervisor, said the funds were a welcome donation.

"These funds will likely be put toward the general needs of the clients, like clothing, food, personal items, items for the shelter, bedding and maybe even beds," Griffin said.

D/SAOC serves clients from 20 counties and currently has 35 beds for clients.

Those interested in donating items or funds to D/SAOC may do so by calling 955-2273 and speaking with Griffin, Connie Harris, director of the center, or Brenda McBride, development director.
