No. 9 Lynx sweep H-D, now sit tied for 1st in NCC

October 11, 2013
The Daily Freeman Journal

HAMPTON - Ninth-ranked (Class 4A) Webster City won twice on the volleyball court last night.

The Lynx first victory they earned themselves - a 3-0 sweep of North Central Conference rival Hampton-Dumont, 25-14, 25-9, 25-13. The second victory came while the players and coaches rode the bus home and learned that Clarion-Goldfield upset No. 8-ranked (3A) Iowa Falls-Alden in five sets.

The Cadets' loss gives WCHS (21-5, 6-1 NCC) a share of the conference lead with just two matches remaining. Iowa Falls-Alden (17-4, 6-1 NCC) knocked off the Lynx earlier this season, but should they both finish with one league loss they would share the championship.

"It's obviously good news for us because it gives us that opportunity at the conference title," WCHS head coach Jess Howard said after learning of Clarion-Goldfield's victory. "But we've still got two (conference) matches left and we've got to be able to perform in both of those matches."

It was a stress-free effort for WCHS on the court last night.

Following back-to-back five-set wins over Algona and Clarion-Goldfield in a span of five days, the Lynx were able to coast past Hampton-Dumont for their fourth consecutive victory.
