Lynx girls, boys finish in back half of Kuemper Invite

September 23, 2013
The Daily Freeman Journal

CARROLL - Inconsistency caught up to the Webster City cross country teams at Saturday's Carroll Kuemper Invitational, as both the girls and boys finished in the bottom half of the Class A pack.

The Lynx girls were sixth with 159 points at Swan Lake State Park, a monstrous 141 points behind meet champion and ninth-ranked (Class 4A) Urbandale (18).

The Lynx boys put up 180 points to place seventh. Urbandale (38) walked away with the team crown by 14 points over runner-up Council Bluffs Thomas Jefferson (52).

"We did not put together the overall team races we had planned to run on either varsity side," WCHS head coach Tony Bussan said. "Both teams need to continue to improve and we need to develop greater consistency and depth if we hope to accomplish our goals."

Twin sisters Allie and Ashley Flaws battled for family bragging rights and were separated by less than a step as the coasted by the finish line. Allie got the nod and placed 27th in 18:03.00 on the 4K course, a miniscule .01 ahead of Ashley (18:03.01), who was 28th.

Courtney Biere (18:11.00) was 29th, Cassidy Bultena (18:26.00) 33rd and Gina Moline (19:02.00) 42nd.
