No. 11 Lynx slam way to own tourney title

WCHS wins all six matches while dropping just one set; runs win streak to eight

WEBSTER CITY - Anything less than 6-0 would have been a disappointment for the 11th-ranked (Class 4A) Webster City volleyball team on Saturday.

No problem.

Webster City steamrolled through its own Lynx Invitational, dropping just one set along the way to win the team title in the round-robin format. Head coach Jess Howard's club upped its winning streak to eight straight matches after disposing of Prairie Valley (21-13, 21-15), Clarke (21-5, 21-8), Gilbert (21-9, 21-17), Northeast Hamilton (21-11, 21-15), Clarion-Goldfield (20-22, 21-14, 15-9) and Ogden (21-13, 21-10).

WCHS junior Hannah Myers (middle) puts down a kill against Northeast Hamilton at Saturday’s Lynx Invite.

"I was happy with the way the girls played all the way through because it was a long day. So for them to stay focused the whole time is showing improvement," Howard said. "The girls and I would have been disappointed with anything less than six wins just because of how we've been playing. For us to come out and reach our expectations and play strong was really good."

A short lull to open against Clarion-Goldfield was all that stood in the way of perfection.

"We had a couple of (matches) off before we played Clarion and we weren't focused in that first (set) against them," Howard said. "But we came back strong and controlled it."
