Show officials are expecting exhibitors from six states for their fourth annual Summer Carriage Classic horse show at the Hamilton County Fairgrounds Saturday and Sunday..
Sponsored by the Best of Iowa In Traces Society (BITS), the event offers classes for all breeds from minis to draft horses for both junior and senior drivers.
Judging the two-day show will be Marsoe LaRose of Aldergrove, B. C., Canada and Mickie Bowen of Unionville, PA.
Terry Hooten of Waterville, Iowa is shown driving her Welsh Cross pony hitched to a wicker “governess cart” in the 2012 Carriage Driving show. This style cart became popular in the early 1900s for a family’s governess to safely transport her charges about the home grounds.
Classes include Turnout which is judged primarily on overall impression, Reinsmanship which is judged on skill of driver, Working Pleasure, and open course and skill classes.
There is no admission charge to view the show which begins at 8 am each day and concludes Sunday afternoon at 3 pm.
