WILLIAMS - Scoring double digits was almost a given for the Northeast Hamilton softball team here yesterday afternoon.

Still, it was nice to see the scoreboard get a workout.

The Trojets belted six of their nine hits in the first inning and scored 11 runs on their way to a quick 3-inning 13-1 pummeling of Corwith-Wesley-LuVerne in non-conference play.

NEH senior pitcher Molly Greenfield heads to the plate with a pitch against CWL yesterday in Williams. She tossed a 3-inning no-hitter.

It's been the definition of a rough summer for the Panthers (0-14), who have been outscored 205-7. They've given up 12 or more runs in all 14 contests.

"It was really fun out there. The girls were up and cheering the whole time and they know I like that," NEH head coach Natalie Ostheimer said. "This is a big confidence booster for us."

The first frame included a bases-loaded, bases-clearing triple for Molly Greenfield, and Jennifer Jeffers followed with the rare two-run inside-the-park home run.

CWL opted to keep its outfielders close to the infield dirt, and the speedy Jeffers simply pounded the ball to deep center field and let her legs do the rest.

"They weren't throwing it in, so I just told her to keep going," Ostheimer said.

Greenfield and Jeffers both finished with two hits and four RBIs.

Jenn Willems, Andi Anderson, Lillian Chamness and Kim VanHouten all roped a single and collected one RBI. Leah Meyer had a base knock as well.

Greenfield tossed a no-hitter, albeit a shortened one, for the Trojets (7-14). She walked two and struck out three.

NEH will get back to work in the Iowa Star Conference tonight with a road trip to Garwin to take on GMG.
