Tour of buildings planned

Jewell borrows idea from neighbor to the north

June 11, 2013
The Daily Freeman Journal

JEWELL - The city of Jewell is borrowing an idea from Webster City and is holding a tour of available Main Street buildings on Friday from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.

The Tour will encompass six buildings in Jewell that are looking for new owners. Carroll McLuckie, president of Jewell Area Development Enterprise, JADE, said the buildings range from currently operating businesses looking to sell, to recently renovated and unoccupied buildings.

The Tour will precede the annual Main Street barbecue during Jewell Jubilee. McLukie said the barbecue brings in more than 800 people annually, and JADE saw an opportunity to promote these available buildings to more than just community members.

"The public has an interest in seeing these buildings that they might remember being in as kids or young adults," McLuckie said. "We've also had people from outside the community and even the country that drive by and stop in town to see what's going on."

Information about the buildings, business support and Jewell in general will be available. In the case of rain, the Tour will be moved to a future date.
