Karen Vanderlip, 69, died Sunday, April 14, 2013, at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines, following a brief illness. Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Thursday, April 18, at Iles Funeral Homes-Westover Chapel. Cremation will follow services and a private committal service will be held at McDivitt Grove Cemetery in Urbandale.
Karen was born and raised in Webster City, graduated from Drake University where she met her future husband Bill. They made their home in Des Moines. Karen worked at Norwest Bank, Drake University and Wellmark Blue Cross/Blue Shield, retiring in 2008. She was an avid bridge player and loved animals, especially her Westies.
Karen is survived by her children, Valerie (John) Hopp of Des Moines and Matthew (Renee) Vanderlip of Promise City; her grandsons, Hunter Hopp, Daniel Ratterree, and Zachary and William Vanderlip; and her mother Laura Weedman of West Des Moines. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Vanderlip.
The family will receive friends from 6 - 8 p.m. Wednesday at Westover Chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to the Animal Rescue League of Iowa. Online condolences will be welcomed at IlesCares.com.
