Douglas Stoakes, son of David and Kim Stoakes, Webster City, has been selected to attend the American Legion "Hawkeye" Boys State.
This year's Boys State will be held at Camp Dodge in Johnston from June 9 to 14. Stoakes will represent American Legion Post 191 and will join approximately 700 other young men from around Iowa. He is a junior at Webster City High School.
The American Legion founded Boys State in 1935 in the belief that young citizens, though familiar with the workings of government, would be better prepared to understand, uphold and service various governments if they had a more detailed understanding of it. The courses of instruction at Boys State are designed to supplement the courses currently taught in the schools.
