BLAIRSBURG?- The Blairsburg Opera House Preservation Committee will host its annual dinner and auction on March 23 at the opera house beginning at 5 p.m. with the auction to follow at 6 p.m.
The opera house has served the community of Blairsburg over the past 118 years as a venue for theatrical and musical entertainment as well as serving as a rollerskating rink, banquet hall and an annex where volunteers rolled bandages during World War II.
Recently, the Blairsburg Opera House Preservation Committee has worked to restore the grand old theatre so it can continue to serve the community.
In the past year, the opera house has hosted several theatrical and musical performances, anniversary celebrations, wedding receptions, family reunions and community functions, said preservation committee member Viora Welsh.
The free will offering dinner will proceed the auction of donated items from community businesses and opera house supporters, said Welsh.
Last year's auction proceeds helped to install new carpet and a chandelier in the entrance to the hall.
On the wish list for 2013, the committee hopes to purchase chair storage units which will double as tables. The purchase and placement of a large mirror will also restore the magnificence of the hall, she said.
