STANHOPE - When the Stanhope City Council met for its regular monthly meeting last week, they approved the third and final readings of ordinances dealing with all-terrain vehicles, the installment payment of cost abatement and service discontinuance and lien exemption.

Visitors at the meeting were Keith and Erma Bockoven. The Bockhovens talked with the council about snowmobilers on their property, which they do not want.

The Bockovens said that they are not opposed to snowmobiles but instead are concerned with the liability of snowmobilers on their property. They would like an alternate snowmobile route and wanted to discuss what needs to be done to change the snowmobile route through Stanhope.

The council will look into the issue and put it on the agenda for its February meeting. City maintenance superintendent Tad Stupp plans to get input from the snowmobile club before that time.

In other business, the council approved two grant applications: one for an Enhance Hamilton County Foundation Grant for upgrading the emergency siren and for a Stanhope Development Group application for business district landscaping.

Also approved was a Department of Natural Resources grant application to be completed by Midas Council of Governments for possible upgrading of existing park playground equipment.

In other business, the council authorized continued participation in the National Flood Insurance Program, which offers rates for residential properties as low as $129 per year.

The council also named the official 2013 newspaper, the depository, personnel, committee assignments, appointments, designations, supported organizations, facility rental rates, and authorization for the payment of certain claims by the clerk prior to the city council meeting dates.
