PCM girls hit stride in 3rd, pull away from SH

Three Hawks score in double figures, led by Jans with 16

JEWELL - A 19-8 third quarter run for Prairie City-Monroe sealed the fate of the South Hamilton girls' basketball team last night on Coach Jim Marsh Court.

The Mustangs (9-6, 8-5 HOIC) knocked down all four of their 3-point shot attempts in the third quarter and they rode the momentum to a 64-50 victory over the Hawks in Heart of Iowa Conference action.

Krisha Houseman tormented South Hamilton (2-12, 1-11 HOIC) all night, as she rained in three of the Mustangs triples en route to a game-high 20 points. Alexis Kain added 13 points, and Kelsey Townsend and Abbi Gilson both finished with eight.

Townsend buried two 3-point buckets for the visitors.

South Hamilton received a big night from forward Ella Jans, who finished with a double-double - 16 points and 10 rebounds.

"Ella did a nice job of finding the gaps and finding a groove, and the perimeter girls did a nice job of finding her," South Hamilton head coach Kathi Fisher said. "Defensively I thought we were doing a nice job, but that third quarter got away from us."

Mattea Detrick (13 points) and Sarah Rudy (11) also scored in double figures for the Hawks. Detrick also contributed five assists, four steals and four rebounds. Rudy distributed seven assists.

The two teams were tied at 13 after one quarter. PCM held on to a small four-point lead at half, 29-25.
