Blizzard’s aftermath

December 21, 2012
The Daily Freeman Journal

Webster City's official weather reporting station reported four and a half inches of snow accumulation through noon on Thursday.

Schools in Webster City, Stratford, Northeast and South Hamilton closed for the first major snowfall of the year. Sun dogs, a halo that appears due to atmospheric conditions, were visible as children enjoyed their day off with sledding at Brewer park in the evening.

Webster City declared a snow ordinance for the snowfall, which was predicted to total up to nine inches.

Sun dogs, halation that appeared around the sun, shine in the sky above the Boone River late Thursday afternoon.

The snowfall will provide a white Christmas for Hamilton County this year, but no snow is predicted in extended forecasts through next week.
