Hawks split duals with Broncos, Indians

Rader, Toillion roll up a combined 4 wins; SH drills Broncos to open night

The Daily Freeman Journal

FOREST CITY - Ten wrestlers picked up at least one win and two went unbeaten for the South Hamilton wrestling team in its non-conference double dual against Belmond-Klemme and Forest City last night.

The Hawks used five pins and four wins by forfeit to rip Belmond-Klemme, 54-27, in their first dual. The host Indians were simply too powerful for South Hamilton in a 60-16 rout.

"For the most part, we went out there and did good things from top to bottom," South Hamilton head coach Dan Brodie said. "We showed up and handled a team I thought we should definitely beat ... there were some frustrating moments, but our guys are still learning and still improving."

Third-ranked (Class 1A) 120-pounder JD Rader, a sophomore, steamrolled through both of his opponents by fall; he stuck Belmond-Klemme's Juan Guido in 48 seconds and then plowed through Forest City's Michael Messersmith in 5:37.

Since an upset loss in the semifinals of the Doug Wood Invitational in Manson last Saturday, Rader has pinned four consecutive foes.

"I think JD understands now that he cannot wrestle so conservative," Brodie said. "He's starting to open things up a little bit."
