BLAIRSBURG - Yep, it's safe to say that Northeast Hamilton boys' basketball coach John Seiser was pretty pleased with his team's defensive effort in the season opener here last night.

What's not to like? The Trojans pitched a shutout in the first half and allowed just three total field goals all night.

Northeast Hamilton (1-0, 1-0 Iowa Star Conference) ran out to a 22-0 lead after one quarter, extended the rout to 30-0 at the intermission and then reeled it in over the final 16 minutes of its 53-12 destruction of CAL.

Northeast Hamilton forward Noah Ronnfeldt (33) fights for a rebound with CAL’s Ben Fahrmann during the first half last night in Blairsburg. The Trojans stormed out to a 30-0 lead at halftime and never relented in a 53-12 trouncing of the Cadets.

The Cadets didn't get on the board until late in the third quarter.

"I was very happy with the pressure we were able to put on," Seiser, in his first year on the Trojans' bench after a lengthy absence, said. "They aren't exactly an offensive powerhouse and we understand that, but we played as well as I was hoping to on defense. We stayed with our man and we played a lot of pressure defense."

Ben Fahrmann accounted for all of the Cadets' points from the field, and he finished with eight total points. Andrew Quinones chipped in four free throws.

Ronnfeldt did most of his work inside the paint, some on second-chances. He yanked down six offensive rebounds and 10 total boards.

"Noah had a really good night and we know he's our second go-to guy in the offense," John Seiser said. "There's going to be much more of an emphasis on getting the ball in the post this year."

Stephen Chamness added five points in the win.

NEH will look for its second win on Friday when it travels east to face conference rival Clarksville.
