Behn poised to return to Senate

Senator leads challenger in race for fifth term

State Senate Majority Leader Jerry Behn appeared to be on track to win re-election late Tuesday night.

According to unofficial election results, the Republican from Boone was leading Democrat Shelly Stotts, also of Boone.

Behn was seeking his fifth term.

Senate District 24 includes southeastern Webster County, all of Boone, Greene and Hamilton counties; and northwestern Story County.

In Webster County, Behn won 1,060 votes or 51.88 percent, while Stotts won 992 votes or 48.27 percent.

In Hamilton County, Behn won 4,141 votes or 55.51 percent, while Stotts won 3,310 votes or 44.37 percent.

In Boone County, Behn won 2,597 votes or 62.41 percent, while Stotts won 1,559 votes or 37.47 percent.

Results from Greene and Story counties were not available at press time.

Phone calls seeking comment from Behn were not immediately returned Tuesday night.
