Stock shelves of the pantry

EHCF issues new challenge

October 25, 2012
The Daily Freeman Journal

The Enhance Hamilton County Foundation is once again issuing a challenge to raise funds for the county's three food pantries.

Officials said a summer drive was a complete success; so successful that an anonymous donor has contributed additional funds that need to be matched by local donations.

The Lord's Cupboard in Jewell, the food pantry in Stratford and UDMO in Webster City all have food and personal care resources that are made available to families who are struggling to put food on the table. The summer challenge to bring in funds helped considerably, according to the food pantry volunteers, but a need still remains in Hamilton County.

According to news accounts, food insecurity continues to rise in rural Iowa. Hamilton County residents are among thousands of individuals and families who struggle to put food on the table. Hamilton County's unemployment rate has improved, but still remains higher than most of Iowa. And, according to one food pantry volunteer, food supply is diminishing in spite of spring food drives and summer donations.

Challenge details

Hamilton County individuals and businesses are asked to make cash donations to the food pantry of his or her choice by writing a check to EHCF and mailing it to P.O. Box 474, Webster City, IA 50595. Be sure to designate to which food pantry the donation needs to be credited.
