To the Editor:
I had to pause when I saw the repeated Steve King ad, with his wife stating that Steve King had had one wife and one church and so on for over 40 years.
In mid-June, Sister Simone Campbell pre-arranged a visit at Steve King's headquarters in Ames. The door was locked. Sister Campbell was there as the executive director of Network, a National Catholic Social Justice Lobby.
Sister Campbell and other nuns were touring the Midwest, discussing how the Paul Ryan budget would harm people who desperately need assistance. Rep. King voted twice for the Ryan budget.
On Aug. 13, in an interview with TV host Eliot Spitzer, Sister Campbell noted the Church was " in consensus around the immorality of the budget itself." The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops, which represents all of the U.S. bishops on key issues, has claimed cuts in Ryan's budget plan are "unjustified and wrong" because they would hurt the poor while protecting the wealthy."
So which "one church" is Steve King's one and only, and why is he afraid of Sister Campbell?
