Legion tries something different with flags for holiday

To the Editor:

In the past for holidays, the American Legion normally puts up six flags on the Boulevard of Valor. On July 3, I thought it would be nice to fly the flags along Beach Street and Ohio Street which represent 110 beautiful American Flags.

I called up 10 people, got a hold of Custom Meats (Virgil Nickelson) and Virgil said the small flag wagon was east to get. We set the work up for 1 p.m. July 3. The rest was history.

My thanks goes out to the good people I knew would help put the flags out I had Wayne Jackson, Marlene Jackson and their granddaughter from Chesapeake Bay, Virginia, Ashley Jackson, Lloyd Martin, Bob Goretska, Jim Talbot, Mr. Whipple, Melvin Randall, Leo Lanctot and Ken Christensen, our driver. Wayne, Marlene and Ashley Jackson, Lloyd Martin, Jim Talbot, Mr. Whipple, and Bob Goretska helped take down the flags on July 7. Thanks to the Webster City Police Department for their escort.

I’m honored to do this service for the community.
