Nadine Cordes

Nadine Delores Cordes, 92, of Webster City, died on Monday, June 20, 2022, at Southfield Wellness Community in Webster City. Visitation will be on Monday, June 27, 2022, from 10:00 – 10:45 AM followed by the Funeral service at 11:00 AM at Faith United Methodist Church, in Webster City. The family has chosen Boman Funeral Home (www.bomanfh.com) to care for their needs.

Nadine was born on August 19, 1929, to Chester and Mavis (Brewer) Nelson, at the home of her grandparents, in Webster City, Iowa. She attended school in Webster City, graduating high school in 1947. She was united in marriage to Byron Cordes on May 16, 1948, at the EUB church in Webster City.

Nadine worked as a “Hayne” girl during high school, then as a telephone switch board operator, after her marriage she sold Avon and jewelry, worked at Dunn’s Bakery, the NEH kitchen in Kamrar, and childcare in her home. She also loved working the elections.

Nadine was a member of the Kamrar Methodist Church, Kamrar Women’s club, Webster City Women’s club, the Hamilton Hospital Auxiliary, Rebekah Lodge, RSVP, and Faith United Methodist Church. She enjoyed her family, baking, reading, playing cards, and bingo. Nadine was very proud of her Brewer family heritage.

Nadine’s family includes her children: Connie (Bruce) Johnson, of Ames, IA, Bruce (Rose) Cordes of Bondurant, IA, and Michael (Denise) Cordes, of Lincoln, NE; grandchildren: Matt (Rob) Hassebrock, of New Orleans, LA, Ben (Stephanie) Hassebrock, of Philadelphia, PA, Melanie (Mike) Frisk, of Ames, IA, Krista (Pam) Cordes-McCue, of Waukee, IA, Mark Cordes of Waukee, IA and Nikki (Ben) Westrope, of St. Augustine, FL; great-grandchildren: Emily, Allison, Mya, Kaleb, Lauren, Brooke, Brady, Finlea, and Keating; sister Sharon Petersen; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Byron Cordes in 1996; infant daughter Kathleen Jo; infant son Mark Alan; and sister Pauline Freeborn. Memorials may be designated to Kendall Young Library, or Faith United Methodist Church.
