HAROLD HEEREN

Harold Heeren, 84, of Stanhope, passed away on Saturday, November 21, 2020, at the Israel Family Hospice House in Ames following several declining health issues. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, November 25, 2020 at First Presbyterian Church south of Kamrar, with Pastor Richard Laird officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be prior to the funeral from 1:00 p.m. until service time. Masks will be required with social distancing being observed. Foster Funeral and Cremation Center is entrusted with the services.

Harold Herman Heeren was born to Wilke and Hilka (Koop) Heeren on December 17, 1935, in the Kamrar area. He graduated from Ellsworth High School in 1953 and worked at Thermogas in Grinnell following graduation. June 1, 1957 he married Carolyn Tash and had three children: Richard (Julie) Heeren of Stanhope, Elaine (Brian) Mitchell of Denver, Colorado, and Tom Heeren of Lehigh. On September 14, 1991, he married Sharon Dearchs.

He is survived by his three children, seven grandchildren and four great grandchildren: Jason Heeren: Anna and Rylan; Jennifer (Travis) Arnold: Henry and Hayden; Lee and T.R. Mitchell, and Emily (Cole) Langford; Ben and Ty Heeren; his step-children: Robyn Svadvik of West Des Moines and Joleen (John) Lauer of Waukee and their eight step-grandchildren and nine great step grandchildren; one sister Wilma (Cecil) Anderson. He is also survived by many cousins, nieces, and nephews here in America as well as in Germany. He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Hortenza Vold, and one step-son Steven Dearchs.

He farmed north of Ellsworth for several years until he moved to a farm south of Stanhope on March 1, 1968, where he farmed for many years. Harold enjoyed participating in the Ostfriesland Heritage Society near Wellsburg, and a Hitch-n-to-go Drivin Club near Webster City. He attended the Church of Christ and New Testament Church of Christ in Webster City. He raised Belgian Horses for many years and had fun pulling a wagon in parades with them. Harold also loved polka music, German music, dancing, roller skating and attending sporting events. He also enjoyed many trips to see relatives in Germany. He will be greatly missed.
