HELEN SHEESLEY

HELEN SHEESLEY

Helen Jean Sheesley, daughter of John and Alice Murken, was born September 3, 1941, in Boone, Iowa.

She attended St. Paul’s Parochial School on Spruce Lane in Boone County, Iowa, and later transferred to Stanhope High School, where she graduated in 1959.

She married Wade Creighton Sheesley on September 10, 1961, at St. Paul’s Ev. Lutheran Church. The couple lived in Stanhope for over fifty years, where they raised their family.

Their daughter Debra was born in June, 1962, and son Michael in May, 1965.

Helen was active in her faith and took part in many church activities all her life; she was a member of St. Paul’s. She loved all parts of life related to caring for family; there could never be too many little voices in the house.

Many summer weekends were spent at Lake Cornelia, where she again cherished the sounds of happy children and the sun on her face. Some years they took a vacation to a new area of the country as a family or as a couple. Helen loved the scenic views offered by the state of Colorado and the Mississippi River. Helen and Wade frequently took hikes or drives to view nature, wildlife, and the countryside.

Helen Jean Sheesley peacefully passed on to live with her Savior on October 27, 2018 at Pella Regional Health Center.

She is survived by Wade, her loving husband of fifty-seven years; brother, Richard; and sister, Dorothy. Helen is also survived by Deb and Mark Leppert, daughter and son-in-law; and Mike Sheesley and Marisol Aguilar, son and daughter-in-law; also Linda and Terry Jackson, sister-in-law and brother-in-law.

Helen is further survived by grandchildren: Alex Killam, Trent Killam and Erin Richmond, Maggie and Kain Kutz, and Chad and Tiffany Thomas-Killam and their four boys.

Helen was preceded in death by her brother, Norman; parents, John and Alice Murken; and father-in-law and mother-in-law, Paul and Margaret Sheesley.
