BETTY JANE HUNT

Betty Jane Hunt, 93, passed away on August 11, 2018 at the Mary Greeley Israel Family Hospice House. Visitation will begin at 5pm, Friday, August 17 at the Alden United Methodist Church. Her funeral Service will be held at 10:30am on Saturday August 18 with burial following at Alden Cemetery. The Surls Funeral Home is assisting the family.

Betty Jane was born on May 11, 1925, in McCallsburg, Iowa to Thomas and Ellen (Male) Tollakson. She graduated from Radcliffe High School (1943), and the Iowa Teachers College in Cedar Falls. She taught country school for two years and kindergarten for one year. On June 26, 1948, Betty was united in marriage to James Hunt in Radcliffe. Betty was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, United Methodist Women, and Faith Circle of Alden Methodist Church. She taught Sunday School, was a Brownie and Girl Scout Leader and also taught Adult Ed courses.

Betty is survived by her six children; Pat (Dan) Zimansky of Tracy, MN, Charles (Lora) Hunt of Britt, Janet (Wayne) Greufe of Blairsburg, Kenneth Hunt of Jewell, Phyllis (Jim) Greenfield of Williams and Brenda (Tim) Gerdes of Story City, her seventeen grandchildren and twenty eight great-grandchildren, brother Robert Tollakson of Ankeny, sisters-in-law Lola Last of Alden, Mavis Day of Vancouver, WA and brother-in-law Russell Hunt of Monroe, WA.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband James, granddaughter Cassie Gerdes, sister Margaret Anderson, sisters-in-law Iola Tollakson, Norma Hunt, Luella Maine, brothers-in-law Raymond Anderson, Nathan Hunt, Delbert Hunt, Wallace Last, Raymond Anderson, an aunt Kathleen Britson and many other aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
