Harland Butler, 78, Webster City

Harland Butler, 78, of Webster City, died Saturday, July 22, 2017 at Crestview Nursing and Rehabilitation. A Celebration of Life will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, July 27, 2017 at Faith United Methodist Church with Pastor Michael Slininger, officiating. Visitation will start at 12:00 p.m. until the time of service. Burial will be in the Graceland Cemetery.

Harland John Butler, son of Roy and Opal (Schweppe) Butler was born on August 24, 1938 in Webster City. He graduated from Webster City High School in 1956. He enlisted in the Iowa Army National Guard from 1956 to 1962. He married Sandra Smith on June 27, 1959 in Fort Dodge. To this union three sons were born. The couple later divorced. He married Rosalyn Adix Myers on May 28, 1989 in Webster City. Harland was a farmer and livestock producer in Hamilton County. He raised various livestock, including cattle, goats, pigs and Appaloosa horses.

Survivors include his wife, Rosalyn, of Webster City; sons, Kelly (Robin) Butler of Fulton, MO; Michael (Nichole) Butler of Indianola; Ryan (Angie) Butler of Jefferson City, MO; step-daughters, Maureen (Matt) Carver of Webster City; Melissa (David) Groat of Fort Dodge; 12 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; siblings, Eileen (Gilbert) Withers of Spring, TX; Miles (Jackie) Butler of Webster City; Kathy (Terry) Lenz of Fort Collins, CO; Ann (Dick) Kock of Kent, WA; and Patrick (Maxine) Butler of Spirit Lake and many nieces and nephews.

Harland was preceded in death by his parents.

He was a member of Faith United Methodist Church. Over the years Harland enjoyed being a 4-H leader, coaching boy’s baseball, golfing, and bowling. He served on the Appaloosa board and sang in the church choir.
