Debra Lou (Fortune) Nix, 56, formerly of Webster City

Former Webster City resident , Debra Lou (Fortune) Nix, 56, died suddenly on July 11, 2017, at her parent’s home in North Bend, Oregon, following a period of declining health.

An informal memorial service is planned in Palmer, Alaska, following cremation services in Oregon.

Mrs. Nix was born January 22, 1961, in Webster City, Iowa to Leonard and Sharon Fortune. She graduated from Webster City High School in 1979, and attended some classes at Iowa Central Community College. She was married to Phil Moberly of Webster City for 11 years, and moved to Alaska with him prior to their divorce.

Debbie was an accomplished cook, and worked for many years in the Palmer, Alaska area as a chef and catering manager. She loved animals, loved to garden, and loved to cook. Perhaps most of all, she loved to go fishing with her Dad while visiting in Oregon. She was a kind and caring soul who took pleasure in helping, and feeding, other people.

She is survived by her husband of 22 years, Charles Nix, of Palmer, Alaska. She is also survived by her parents, Leonard and Sharon Fortune, sister Beth (Fortune) Sylvester, and brother David Fortune, all of North Bend, Oregon. Other survivors include her uncle Jim Fortune and his wife Mary of Webster City, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
