Ellen McBroom, 63, Webster City

Ellen “Ellie” McBroom, 63, of Webster City, died February 22, 2017 at Van Diest Medical Center. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, February 27, 2017 at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church in Webster City with Father Stephen Meyer officiating. Burial will be held in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 2:00 pm. to 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 26, 2017 at Foster Funeral and Cremation Center with a 1:45 p.m. Rosary followed by a Scripture Service.

Ellen Eileen Knosby was born June 21, 1953 in Williams, the daughter of Louis and Virginia Lesher Knosby. She lived on a farm southeast of Williams attending Williams and Northeast Hamilton Schools until her family moved to a farm northwest of Webster City in 1970. She graduated from Webster City High School in 1971. She graduated from Warburg College in 1975 and began work with the Drug Council and Operation Threshold Housing Office. In 1979 she worked in the Production Control Department of John Deere Tractor Works NES in Waterloo. On August 30, 1980 she was married to Allen McBroom at St. Mary Catholic Church in Waverly. They lived in Waterloo and Jesup until returning to the Webster City area in 1985. She worked for the Frigidaire Maintenance Department until 1998, Vantec, Inc. until January of 2000 and the State of Iowa Department of Corrections, Fort Dodge Correctional Facility as an Activity Specialist 2 until her retirement in June of 2010 due to failing health.

Ellen enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren. She loved collecting vintage Barbie Dolls and really loved slot machines and scratch tickets.

Ellen is survived by her husband, Allen of Webster City, children, Jeremiah (Angela) McBroom of Plainfield; Michael McBroom, Katie Lorraine, Melissa McBroom, all of Webster City; 5 grandchildren, Evan, Matthew, Emma, Joseph and Aryana; siblings, Marty Knosby of Fort Dodge; Mike Knosby of Webster City, Leota (John) Thompson of St. Charles, MO, Diane (Jim) Smith of Waverly; mother-in-law, Phyllis McBroom of Cedar Falls; sister-in-law, Sandra (Mike) Andorf of Waterloo; many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; father-in-law, Carroll McBroom; sister-in-law, Jennifer Knosby; and brothers-in-law, Gary and Richard McBroom.
