Larry Yates, 76, Webster City

Larry (Joe) Yates, 76, of Webster City, died Tuesday November 29, 2016, at Crestview Nursing and Rehabilitation. Visitation will be held at Foster Funeral and Cremation Center on Friday, December 2, 2016 from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, December 3, 2016 at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church. Burial will be held at a later date.

Lawrence (Joe) Francis Yates, son of Eldrige and Eunice Passwaters Yates was born on June 11, 1940 in Williams, Iowa. He received his education in Dows and Webster City. He graduated from Lincoln High in 1958. From 1963 to 1965 he served in the United States Army as a radio operator. On , 1966 he married Sandy Elizabeth Ribbey at St. Thomas Aquinas in Webster City. The couple resided in Webster City. He was employed as a mechanic at Yates Service Station for several years working for his brother Andrew. Later he worked as a custodian at Webster City High School for sixteen years. He retired in 2005.

Joe is survived by his wife, Sandy; sons and daughters-in-law, Sean and Missy Yates of Biddeford, Maine, and Jason and Marlina Yates of Shawnee, Kansas; seven grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren and one on the way; siblings Andrew Yates, Larita Manship, Janet Yates, Kathy Yates; sisters-in-law Ardys Yates and Verona Yates and several nieces and nephews.

Joe is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Jim Yates, John Yates, Dean Yates and Wendell Yates; sister, Maxine Fitchhorn; sister in infancy, Evelyn Marie Yates; brothers-in-law, Russell Fitchhorn, John Manship; and sister-in-law, Charlene Yates.

He was a member of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church. He enjoyed spending time with his family, watching sports, pitching softball in the Webster City fast pitch leagues, helping his wife sell items at garage sales and flea markets and playing lottery pull-tabs.
