A fire reported Sunday night at about 9 p.m. in the 700 block of Park Avenue in Webster City resulted in damage to the structure but no injuries, according to Webster City Fire Chief Chuck Stansfield.

Webster City Fire Department crews responded to 714 Park Ave. and found smoke and flames coming from the two-story, single family residence. The six individuals living in the home were all out of the house and accounted for, Stansfield said, and none were injured. A family pet was found deceased in the building.

The Webster City line department turned off the power to the home and the gas was turned off as well, Stansfield said. The fire was quickly brought under control. The firefighters checked the structure for hot spots, and investigated the cause and origin of the fire.

“Based on initial findings, it appears that the origin of the fire was in the laundry room,” he said. “The cause is still under investigation and was not found to be intentional.”

Webster City Police assisted with traffic control and gathering information, and Van Diest Medical Center ambulance also responded to the scene.
