Holiday season arrives in WC Saturday

Activities with Santa, a lighted parade and tree lighting planned

In just a few days, the holiday season will officially arrive in Webster City with a full day of activities and events

Christmas in the City returns on Saturday, Nov. 4 at several venues across Webster City with several organizations and the City of Webster City involved in the festivities.

The day will begin with a Breakfast with Santa at Hy-Vee, 823 Second St.

At Wilson Brewer Park, visitors will have a chance to take part in a Pioneer Christmas in the Park. The event will be held from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. The historic buildings in the park will be open for casual tours and kids will have an opportunity to meet and have photos taken with Santa Claus. The Jolly Old Elf will be stationed in the newly refurbished log cabins. There will also be craft bags for children to take home, Ruby said.

Carriage rides will also be available at Wilson Brewer Park, according to Ruby, on a first come, first served basis.

Back downtown, the Webster Theater will offer a special showing of the Christmas movie, “Elf,” at 1 p.m.

Also at 1 p.m. families will be able to take a Candy Cane Hike at Briggs Woods Park. Participants will meet at Shelter No. 2 and will hike the park trails with the county naturalist in search of hidden candy canes on the trees. Along the way, there will be discussions about the history of candy canes and what is going on with animals in the woods during the winter months. Those taking part are reminded to dress appropriately for the weather.

From 3 to 3:30 p.m., the Webster City Community Theatre will present “A Christmas Carol” at Wilson Brewer Park.

American Legion Post 191 at 726 Second St., will serve chili and cinnamon rolls from 4 to 6 p.m. Free will donations will be accepted.

A lighted Christmas parade will be held at 5 p.m. through downtown Webster City. The theme of the parade is “Let Your Light Shine.” Line up for the parade will begin at 4 p.m. at West Twin Park on Seneca Street.

The parade will head north on Seneca Street, turn west on Second Street and continue to Prospect Street.

The annual tree lighting will be held at 6 p.m. at Availa Bank Plaza. From 6 to 7 p.m., there will be a Luminary Walk and star-gazing at Wilson Brewer Park.

Capping off the day will be the Community Chorus Concert at Trinity Lutheran Church, “Coming Together at Christmas,” beginning at 7 p.m.
