Webster City Community Theatre moves to an outside venue Sunday to perform three short plays. Billed as an “Outdoor Pop-Up Theater,” it’s the troupe’s first public offering since March when the stage went dark due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The plays will be done as radio theater with actors reading from scripts. The public is invited to bring lawn chairs or blankets to the grassy area on the north side of Trinity Lutheran Church, 1229 Kathy Lane, for the 2 p.m. show.

Masks are required to enter the area and ushers will help with seating to maintain social distancing guidelines. Those attending are welcome to bring their own refreshments. There’s no charge, but free will donations are gratefully accepted.

“Out of the Storm” is an old-time melodrama featuring dastardly villain, dashing hero, and damsel in distress. Audience is encouraged to participate by booing, cheering, and clapping at appropriate times. Cast members are Kevin Sharp, Abby Sharp, Trese Arends, Dale Arends, and Mary Sealine, and Mark Dohms. It is directed by Wil Groves.

“Murder in Focus” is a 1945-era radio show by Steve Cleberg. The thriller tells the story of a young newlywed who is caught in a bizarre set of circumstances when she is confronted by her former boyfriend and news about the infamous “Camera Casanova.” Are the similarities between her new husband and the fatalistic photographer too close for comfort? The play features an array of sound effects engineered by Sam Ose to help the audience visualize the action. Cast members are Nicole Ose, Sam Ose, Karin Yungclas, Mark Andrew, Sally Evans, and Doug Getter, who is also directing the show.

“I’m Herbert,” a sketch by Robert Anderson features an elderly couple bickering about past events of their life together. Their reminiscences are clouded by failing memories and a plethora of previous partners. Loween Getter and Wil Groves reprise the roles of Muriel and Herbert they played with other actors several decades ago when it was easier to memorize lines.
