Officials investigate possible homicide at FD prison

Investigators are looking into the circumstances surrounding an inmate who was found dead in his cell at the Fort Dodge Correctional Facility Sunday evening.

Thomas Andrew Daleske, 59, was found dead in his cell at approximately 5:15 p.m., according to Cord Overton, communications director for the Iowa Department of Corrections. The State Medical Examiner has yet to determine the final cause and manner of death. At the DOC’s request, the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation began investigating by Monday afternoon.

The DCI and DOC are working with the Webster County Attorney’s office on pending criminal charges, a press release said.

Independent sources confirmed that investigators have identified a suspect in the matter.

Daleske was serving a 45-year maximum sentence for multiple convictions related to sexual abuse and lascivious acts with a child from Warren County. He began serving his sentence on Oct. 31, 2000.

The DOC prioritizes notifying both the family of the deceased and the victims of their crimes prior to releasing information to the public.
