COVID-19 cases spike in Hamilton Co.

Positive tests climb to 158, up 18 since Friday

Hamilton County’s COVID-19 positive cases spiked from 140 case on Friday to 158 as of Sunday night, according to the website coronavirus.iowa.gov.

Hamilton County has also surged ahead of several surrounding counties, including Hardin with 53, Franklin with 60 cases, Boone with 117 and Webster with 120 individuals testing positive. Wright and Story are the only surrounding counties with a higher number of positive cases at 332 and 469, respectively.

Ninety-five individuals have recovered from COVID-19 in Hamilton County and there have been no COVID-19 related deaths.

Statewide, 257,962 individuals have been tested with 25,962 testing positive. A total of 16,090 have recovered across Iowa and there have been 686 deaths.

The Regional Medical Coordination Center reported that in Region 3, which covers the northwest corner of the state and includes Hamilton County, 42 individuals were hospitalized due to COVID-19, down from 48 on Saturday. Fifteen people were in the intensive care unit, down from 16 Saturday and two new people were admitted. The region has a total of 556 inpatient beds, with 110 ICU beds. There are 95 ventilators in Region 3, with 8 patients currently on a ventilator.
