COVID-19 cases continue to grow in Hamilton County

The number of positive COVID-19 cases in Hamilton County surged by 10 Thursday. The positive cases climbed to 140, up from 130 the previous day.

A total of 1,597 people have been tested in Hamilton County.

Sixty-five percent of those testing positive were symptomatic and 12 percent were asymptomatic or displaying no symptoms of the coronavirus. About 51 percent of those testing positive were male and 47 percent were female.

Seventy-one individuals have recovered from the coronavirus.

Surrounding counties also saw increases in positive cases. Webster County has 108 cases and Wright County has 310. Boone County has 104 positive cases, while Story County reported 339. Franklin County has 55 cases and Hardin County has 49.

Statewide, 241,301 individuals have been tested with 24,854 positive cases. There have been 15,604 individuals who have recovered and there have been 679 deaths in Iowa related to the coronavirus.

The Regional Medical Coordination Center data is also reported on the coronavirus.iowa.gov website. Region 3, in the northwest corner of the state, which includes Hamilton County, has reported that there are currently 70 COVID-19 patients hospitalized, down from 73 Wednesday. Twenty-four patients are in an intensive care unit, also down three from Wednesday. There have been two new admissions in the past 24 hour period, according to the website.

The region has a total of 477 inpatient beds with 109 ICU beds. Eighty-five ventilators are available with 16 patients as of Tuesday utilizing ventilators.
