Blue Christmas service set for Trinity Lutheran

While Christmas is a season of hope and joy, it is also important to acknowledge that not everyone feels like celebrating this time of year.

That’s why Trinity Lutheran Church, 1229 Kathy Lane in Webster City, will host a Blue Christmas service on Friday, Dec. 20 at 12:15 p.m.

According to the Rev. Gina Sterk of Trinity Lutheran, experiences such as grief, illness, loss, or loneliness may make it difficult for some people to join in the festivities. In fact, the flurry of holiday celebrations may even amplify the sense of sadness or emptiness for those who are struggling.

“A ‘Blue Christmas’ service is meant to hold a time and space for these feelings, as we come together seeking healing and hope,” said Sterk. “This will be a simple and contemplative service of singing, scripture, and candle lighting.”

The service is open to the public and will be followed by a soup lunch and a time of fellowship.
