Personal protection training seminar planned for Saturday
A personal safety seminar will be held Saturday, Nov. 23 at the the Hamilton County Courthouse.
“Not Me, Not Today,” produced and presented by Hamilton County Deputy Sheriff Rod Hicok, in cooperation with the Hamilton County Peace Officers Association, will be offered at 10 a.m. in the lower level of the courthouse.
“Our goal is to keep you from becoming the victim of a crime,” Hicok said of the training.
The instruction is presented at no cost to participants. Hicok is a retired Iowa State Trooper and is currently a deputy with the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office with nearly 40 years’ experience in law enforcement.
The course will include instruction on safety awareness and personal protection in everyday situations with an emphasis on:
• Avenues of escape
• Staying out of confrontations
• Recognizing and reporting suspicious activity
• Situational awareness.
Individuals age 13 and older are invited to attend, however anyone under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult.
“Real life situations will be addressed,” he said. “The course has been designed to keep you safe and is for instruction and teaching.”
There will be a drawing for various prizes and light snacks will be served.
The instructors reserve the right to deny access to the seminar to any individual with a known criminal history involving a violent or felonious act.
